Doctors Recommendation / Third-Party Recommendation

This is the most common type of recommendation that is available. This is a statement from a state-licensed physician that allows the purchase of cannabis for medicinal purposes to anyone 18+.

  • You, your doctor, and the retailer you purchase from

State MMID (Medical Marijuana Identification Card)

This is a state-issued license that does give you an exemption from sales tax. This does take some additional steps to acquire. These cards will be issued directly through the department of public health and will have a gold California seal on the card itself. 

• How do I get one?
  • Register with your county public health department after you receive a doctor's recommendation.

• Do I need to pay taxes?
  • You are exempt from paying sales tax (up to 10% depending on location)
• How much does it cost?
  • $100 per year along with the costs of a doctor's recommendation.
• Who is able to see I have a State MMID?
  • You, the county of registration, and your retailer.
